   May Feature:  Vegetables

A few vegetables need the pollination of male & female plants to produce edibles. Squash is an example of a commonly grown plant that needs pollination. Both the male and female flowers must be in bloom at the same time. Get more tips for vegetable gardening HERE.

TIPS FOR GROWING POPPIES:

  • Plant Oriental poppies in full sun in well-drained soil.

  • Cut the stems back to the ground once finished.

  • Poppies don't like to be transplanted, so plant them directly where they are to grow.

  • Allow pods to seed and save them for next years planting or trade with a neighbor for other varieties. If you let the seeds drop naturally, they will overwinter, and the following spring they will come back stronger than ever.

  • Plant bachelor buttons or babies breath with your poppies to avoid a bare patch once they have finished.
