HAIRY POTTER - MY DOG THE GARDENER

HAIRY POTTER the gardening dog :0)

- We brought Scout (our Hairy Potter) home on June 16 (Father's Day) 2001. Someone had abandoned him at a local country land refuse site. Although we had no intentions of expanding our family at the time, he has turned out to be a great source of joy for us all.
- This adorable little creature has shown an appreciation for flowers from day one. His favorite toy is a plastic flower pot. Things liven up a bit when he decides to do his own planting and digs holes throughout my beautiful garden.
- Having a canine member of the family has it's pros and cons in terms of gardening but as with anything... you learn to adapt.
- Dog urine contains a high concentration of nitrogen which will burn a lawn. Any treatments used for lawn care could cause an increase in the dogs urinating because the smell is unfamiliar to them and they will want to mark their territory. The best solution is to keep the dogs off the lawn if possible. Obviously (judging by the photos) we haven't been too successful with this yet :0)
- You can deter rabbits and other pests by scattering dog hair around your garden in areas where they frequently visit.
- It is important to remember that there are many plants that could be dangerous if kids or pets were to eat them. One common plant that is VERY toxic is the Jerusalem cherry. Both the fruit and leaves are extremely toxic and should be kept well out of the reach of young hands.
- If it's to cold to give your dog a bath outside this winter, rub baking soda into its fur to keep him/her fresh smelling.
